Bird watching in Nepal is one of the best wildlife activities for those who enjoy the sounds of birds chirping in a green colossal forest. Nepal is not only a country of magnificent mountains but also a bird watcher’s paradise. More than 850 species of birds are found in Nepal and surprisingly a good number of these birds can be spotted in and around the Kathmandu Valley alone. Kathmandu valley is a home to about 500 species of birds. Famous bird watching areas inside this city includes Shivapuri, Nagarjun, Godawari, Phulchowki and Taudaha. Similarly, perfect sites for bird watching outside the Kathmandu valley include Chitwan National Park, Bardia National Park and Koshi Tapu Wildlife Reserve. Around 543 species of bird can be viewed from the Chitwan National Park and over 500 species of bird in Bardia and 527 in Koshi Tapu. Nepal’s national bird is the lophophorous, Impeyen Pheasant locally called Danphe which is found in the Himalayan region.
